About the project
Great States Construction has been proud to work with Inspire Inc. on two residential living homes in Ada, one a full remodel and one brand new construction on an infill lot in an established neighborhood.
A New Inspire House
When Inspire Inc. came to Great States Construction with an idea for a new home built specifically for adults with developmental disabilities, the team went to work. The goal was not to build a house, but to build a home designed around the people who would live there.
That meant zero-entry showers, a wheelchair-accessible kitchen, wide hallways, and a walk-in bathtub. Even the front entry door was modified for easy wheelchair access. Every detail was considered before a single wall went up.
Uniquely, this project’s construction timeline took a twist when cold weather set in before the slab could be poured. To keep the project on track, crews turned to building the exterior of the building and then pouring the concrete slab once it was fully enclosed.
When the home was finished, Inspire surprised the residents with a tour. Executive Director Hillary Chisholm said the moment brought screams of joy, hugs, and tears from caregivers.
“This build wasn’t just another project,” Chisholm said. “It is truly a life-changing home.”
Updating The Existing Inspire House
Not every project starts from scratch. When Inspire Inc. needed to bring an existing residential home up to the same standard as their new construction, Great States Construction took on the renovation.
The project added an egress window to meet safety requirements, converted both bathrooms to zero-entry showers for full accessibility, and epoxied the basement floor for a clean, durable finish.
Small in scope, significant in impact. The residents who call this home now have a space that meets their needs the same way the new construction does.
