Behind every successful construction project is a person who brings passion and dedication to the table. Meet Brian, one of the standout project managers at Great States Construction, who has been turning visions into reality, one project at a time. From his unique path into the industry to the lessons he’s learned along the way, Brian’s story is a great example of growth, hard work, and heart.

Brian’s Background

Starting Out

Brian’s journey into construction wasn’t straightforward. Initially, he was on a different path, planning to pursue a career as an electrician. But life had other plans. A shift to MSUM led him into the world of construction. “I came in super green—had no idea what I was in for,” Brian said.

Drawn to Construction

What pulled Brian into construction wasn’t just the w ork—it was the excitement of seeing a project through from start to finish. “I didn’t want to sit around all day,” he explains. “I wanted to be out on-site, watching things come to life.” That hands-on, tangible experience, where something is being built right in front of you, has been the driving force behind his career.

Joining Great States Construction

Since joining Great States Construction, Brian’s role has been one of constant learning and growth. Starting out by calling subcontractors and managing smaller pieces of larger projects, he quickly honed his organizational and communication skills. “Being organized is huge,” he says, reflecting on how far he’s come. Over time, Brian has moved from a rookie to a key team player, ready to take on whatever comes his way.

The Life of a Project Manager

A Day in the Life

No two days are the same for Brian, and that’s just how he likes it. His daily schedule is a whirlwind of meetings, project updates, and checking in with the team on the ground. “Every day brings something new,” he says, “and that’s what keeps things exciting.”

Favorite Projects

Out of all the projects Brian has worked on, one stands out: Fly Fitness. Fly Fitness holds a special place in his heart because it was his first solo project—a major milestone in his career. “It was a fun project, and seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding,” he recalls.

The Best Part of the Job

For Brian, the most rewarding part of his job is seeing the joy on small business owners’ faces when a project is complete. “When clients tell us we did a good job, it makes all the hard work worth it,” he says. Helping people bring their dreams to life is what keeps him going, especially when he can save them time and money along the way.

Beyond the projects, Brian treasures the camaraderie at Great States Construction. Company outings like golf events are a highlight for him. “We all get along really well, and there’s no micromanaging. It’s a great atmosphere,” he says, appreciating the supportive and collaborative work environment that allows him to grow both personally and professionally.

Looking Ahead

As for the future, Brian is excited about where Great States Construction is headed. With bigger, more complex projects on the horizon, there’s no slowing down. “We’re getting busier, and that’s exciting. It’s a great time to be part of this team,” he says, looking forward to what’s next.
