In September 2022, a fire broke out in one of the apartment buildings at West Winds, located in the 3400 block of 42nd St. South Fargo. The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Several residents were displaced, as their homes were now in need of complete reconstruction. This is where Great States Construction stepped in.

The Before

In July 2023, we started our work assessing the damage. We discovered smoke and flames caused severe damage to the first, second, and third floors of the East wing. The fire also caused pipes to burst, which led to significant water damage and mold growth. A portion of the roof, East stairwell, and 12 of the 52 units needed to be demoed before reconstruction could begin.

The After

Interior units were gutted, reinsulated, and drywalled. New plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems were installed, restoring functionality for future residents. Each unit was fitted with a bright, sleek aesthetic, brand-new stainless-steel appliances, and chrome hardware on all cabinetry and doors.

Outside of the units, new fire safety instructions and fire extinguishers were outfitted to the building. Patios and new siding were installed to seamlessly match the existing exterior. With the finishing touches in the building complete, keys were handed over to West Winds’ owner on April 1, 2024.

Despite the extensive damage, Great States Construction was able to complete this project in just nine months. Now, West Winds Apartments stands fully rebuilt and better than ever!
